The Houston Texans have signed quarterback Matt Leinart to a one year deal.
The former Arizona Cardinal will take his physical, sign his contract, and join the team on Monday.
Leinart will become the team’s third-string quarterback behind Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky. The former Heisman Trophy winner threw for 3,893 yards with 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions with Arizona.
At Arizona, he became frustrated after being losing the starting job to former Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson.
He felt he had outperformed Anderson and was not treated well by coach Ken Whisenhunt.
During college, Leinart played for Southern California, leading the Trojans to an AP national championship in 2003, a BCS national championship in 2004, and an appearance in the BCS National Championships game in 2005.
In 2004, his junior year at USC, he won the Heisman Trophy. He also won the inaugural Manning Award for college quarterbacks in the same season.
