NFL Week 5 Picks: Chicago Bears’ Julius Peppers is a Menace to His Former Team

There is something to players leaving one team on somewhat bad terms, then returning the very next season to face off against his former team. These situations always make for compelling storylines, and this week the Chicago Bears head into Carolina toting their big offseason acquisition, former Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers.

Peppers has stated publicly that he was unhappy with how he left Carolina, where he'd played all his games in both basketball and football in his athletic life. Now he returns with a Bears team that is fresh off an embarrassing performance on national television last Sunday night, where they were pushed around by the New York Giants.

This week, against a Panthers team with a rookie running back and a less-than-stellar offense in general, I expect Peppers to do a lot of pushing of his own. Jimmy Clausen is a rookie quarterback still often unsure under center, and he'll be without his number one target, receiver Steve Smith.
