Hakeem Nicks dealt the New York Giants another blow on Monday, when it was revealed that the team will be without his services for three weeks while the star wideout deals with swelling in his right leg.
Nicks, a second-year pro out of North Carolina, was hit in the lower right leg at some point during the team's 27-17 loss to the Philadephia Eagles on Sunday night. He is being treated for compartment syndrome, a swelling condition which can compress nerves and blood vessels. It can lead to muscle and nerve damage if not treated immediately.
Nicks had been the Giants' leading wide receiver through 10 games in 2010, racking up 800 yards and 9 touchdowns on the year. He is the latest Giants wideout to spend time on the bench with an injury, joining former Pro Bowler Steve Smith (not the Carolina version), Ramses Barden and Victor Cruz.
The team will use Mario Manningham, rookie Duke Calhoun and recently signed wideout Derek Hagan on Sunday.
