Mike Shanahan: Benching Donovan McNabb Another Controversy In Washington

December 17, 2010   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Mike Shanahan has not had an easy run during his short tenure in Washington.
In addition to being 5-8 and the Redskins $100 million defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth quarreling with the coaching staff and ultimately being suspended, Shanahan has struggled to manage his former pro bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb.
In Week Eight, with the Redskins down six points late in the fourth quarter against Detroit, Shanahan replaced McNabb with Rex Grossman. After the 37-25 loss, Shanahan said that he made the move because McNabb did not have a good enough grasp of the team's two-minute offense. A day later he changed that stance, saying McNabb was not in good enough shape to run the two-minute drill.
Grossman will, according to ESPN.com, start when the Redskins play in Dallas Sunday.
