2011 NFL Draft News: Are Two Of The Most Talented Prospects Possible No. 1 Picks?
The last wide receiver to be drafted No. 1 overall was Keyshawn Johnson in 1996 and the last defensive back to be drafted No. 1 overall was Gary Glick in 1956.
This year two SEC juniors, LSU defensive back Patrick Peterson and Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green, have the potential to break this trend and become the No. 1 overall selection.
The Carolina Panthers, owners of the No. 1 selection, are a franchise in rebuilding mode with almost everything to gain and nothing to lose.
They selected quarterback Jimmy Clausen in the second round last season and while his production as a rookie was hardly enough to say he is ready to be their franchise quarterback, taking another quarterback at No. 1, from a group or prospects that my not warrant selection that high, would be a mistake at this point.
