Carolina Panthers Draft: Is running back a big enough need to justify the pick?
Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones turned some heads when he declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season with the FCS program. It's very rare to see a player from a program not from the FBS declare early for the draft.
Jones is starting to show why he made the decision. It could end up paying off big.
Yahoo! Sports reports that Jones has several meetings set up with NFL teams including the Carolina Panthers. Evan Silva of Pro Football Talk as a second or third-round pick thanks to his blazing speed. Rumors are swirling that Jones will run the 40-yard dash somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.35 seconds.
It's also expected that he will produce 10-yard splits in the 1.4-second range, better than any performance at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The 4.35 40 speed is fast. But the 1.4-like ten-yard split would be crazy. When thinking how the 10-yard split can translate to play...
