Merril Hoge Ranks Broncos’ Tim Tebow Below Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, and Other

I really did mean to leave the Tebow issue alone.

I had made peace with the idea that the Broncos should not consider drafting a quarterback with one of their top picks. Tim Tebow is the best option for the Broncos going into the 2011 season, though it would make sense to draft a quarterback much later in the draft if the plan is to trade Orton and release Quinn. Then I listened to what NFL analyst and former player Merril Hoge had to say about Tebow.

Merril was a guest today on my favorite radio show, “The Drive” on 104.3 the Fan a Denver sports radio show (which features two former Broncos, Alfred Williams and Mark Schlereth). Merril had some important things to say about Tebow. When asked whether Tebow would be taken ahead of Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Ryan Mallet, Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton, and yes, I believe he even included Ricky Stanzi in the discussion, the very articulate analyst replied, “No”.
