2011 NFL Mock Draft: Minnesota Vikings Skip QB, Take Nick Fairley

There are plenty of dire quarterback situations for NFL teams participating in the 2011 NFL Draft, but perhaps none more dire than the Minnesota Vikings face.  Heading into the 2011 season, it would appear that Joe Webb is their starting quarterback.  And no disrespect to Webb, who played adequately in limited time last season, but when your starting quarterback is a converted wide receiver, that likely is not an ideal situation.
It has to be so incredibly tempting for the Vikings to take a quarterback here.  But who do you take?  Newton and Gabbert are off the board.  Jake Locker is probably the next guy up, but the gap between Newton/Gabbert and everyone else is huge.  So while the Vikings might be desperate for a passer, there's simply no way you can take Locker at 12 overall.  I'm still not even sure that Locker is a first round pick.
