Tampa Bay Buccaneers Get to 53: Splash Plays Didn’t Save Ed Gant
September 3, 2011 · Tom Edrington · Jump to comments
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut their roster to 53 late Saturday and there were no great surprises.
Wide receiver Ed Gant gave it his all on Thursday night against Washington, but splash plays didn’t save him from the Turk. He was one of the players waived, but don’t be surprised if he’s on the practice squad Sunday if he goes unclaimed.
Here’s your list of waiver players, straight from Buccaneers.com.
The biggest surprise came at tight end. They waived Daniel Hardy, Nathan Overbay and Ryan Purvis, leaving only Kellen Winslow Jr. and Luke Stocker on the 53-man roster. Hardy might be a cinch for the practice squad.
You already knew about Tyrone McKenzie, Kyle Moore and John McCargo.
Third quarterback Rudy Carpenter was waived, but has been offered a spot on the practice squad.
Running back Armando Allen and Mossis Madu were waived, here are the rest:
Matt Allen (C)
Will Barker (T)
Ahmad Black (S)
Cory Brandon (T)
Thomas Claiborne (G)
Marc Dile (G)
Ed Gant (WR)
Daniel Hardy (TE)
Dominque Harris (S)
Brandon Heath (LB)
Simoni Lawrence (LB)
Nathan Overbay (TE)
Alex Magee (DE)
Maurice Price (WR) injury settlement
Ryan Purvis (TE)
Nick Reveiz (FB LB)
Al Woods (DT)
Jacob Rogers (K)
There you have it, no surprises, really.
The practice squad was put together on Sunday and there’s always the possibility that the Bucs could see someone that another team waived who might interest them.
Where was LeGarrette Blount on Opening Day last year?
He surely wasn’t on the original 53-man roster.
Take it for what it’s worth.
