NFL Rumors: Latest Buzz Around the League Going into Week 1

NFL teams have cut rosters to 53 players, and names like Tim Hightower, Mike Kafka, Stephen McGee and Kellen Winslow are now all out on the open market. 
Before the September 5 opener between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, teams are sure to be active on the waiver wire, setting their practice squads and looking for unwanted players and good fits on the trade market. 
 
Kafka Coveted?
Mike Kafka is garnering a lot of interest on the open market, reportedly being sought after by at least four teams looking for a backup QB. He couldn't get on the field in preseason due to a hand injury, and Nick Foles seized the backup job with his solid play. 
According to Erik Scalavino from Patriots Football Weekly, the Patriots have interest in bringing Kafka in on the practice squad:
