Why C.J. Spiller is Not Needed in San Francisco 49ers Backfield

So many mock drafts have the 49ers taking C.J. Spiller in the first round. That would completely waste a first round pick. He's not a bad player, but there's simply not a need for him. People seem to imagine needs that don't exist.
One of the needs that that Spiller would fill is kick and punt returner. That need doesn't exist. They have Josh Morgan. He returned 13 kickoffs last year, averaging 28.2 yards per return. That includes returns of 52 and 76 yards. Morgan didn't return any punts last year, but I'm sure he could pick it up.
C.J. Spiller is a running back above all, and the 49ers have no need for another running back. If they drafted Spiller it would limit Frank Gore's carries. That's not a good idea. If you look at the stats from last season, every time Gore got more than 15 carries (with the exception of the game against the Eagles), the Niners won. So if you limit Frank Gore's carries, you lose.
