Stevie Johnson: Latest News, Rumors, Speculation on WR’s Future with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly deciding what to do with wide receiver Stevie Johnson, as the team debates whether they should offer the wideout a pay cut, or simply release him outright.

49ers Pondering Options With Johnson  Saturday, Feb. 28 Ian Rapoport noted that Johnson could be heading for a pay cut this offseason, as San Francisco tries to cut salary.
Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reported that the team was considering a more extreme option, one that would save them more than $5 million in salary:
Johnson posted the following to Instagram, suggesting his time with the 49ers is coming to a close:
Johnson caught just 35 passes for 435 yards and three touchdowns in his only season with San Francisco. That type of production along with a crowded wideout group left little reason for the 49ers to keep him given the high price tag.
