Connor Shaw Injury: Updates on Browns QB’s Recovery from Thumb Surgery

Cleveland Browns quarterback Connor Shaw will undergo surgery to repair a broken thumb suffered in Thursday's 20-17 loss to Washington.

Shaw To Miss Extended Period of Time Sunday, Aug. 16 "I feel for Connor because he has worked extremely hard," Browns head coach Mike Pettine said in a statement. "He's a competitor and has had a great offseason and a good camp so far. He is good for the quarterback room, and it's unfortunate that this injury won't allow him to compete."
Shaw, 23, went 5-of-10 for 64 yards in Cleveland's preseason opener. He was competing with Thaddeus Lewis for the team's third quarterback job. Undrafted out of South Carolina in 2014, Shaw made one start as a rookie, completing 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards with an interception.
