Hurricane Katrina as Seen Through the Eyes of the Saints’ Biggest Fans

Hurricane Katrina claimed 1,833 lives, damaged over 1 million homes in the Gulf Coast region and displaced over 1 million families. Many former New Orleans residents still have not returned: The city's population is roughly 20 percent lower than it was before the storm. The impact of the storm is still acutely felt by hundreds of thousands of families 10 years later.
But the Saints and the Superdome remain in New Orleans. The Saints played a full schedule in 2005, playing home games in road stadiums, at the Alamodome in San Antonio and at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. The Superdome went from a "refuge of last resort" to a disaster area of its own during the floods that followed the hurricane as 30,000 evacuees survived fetid, overcrowded conditions for days without plumbing or power.
