The Washington Redskins will in all likelihood re-sign Kirk Cousins this offseason. The only question is whether they ink their starting quarterback to a long-term deal or slap the franchise tag on him for the 2016 season.

Cousins Reportedly in No Rush to Sign Extension Sunday, Feb. 14 According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, using the franchise tag may prove to be a more fruitful strategy for the Redskins. La Canfora reported Friday, citing sources, that Cousins and Washington "were nowhere close to a new deal coming out of the Senior Bowl."
La Canfora discussed in Friday's report how some veterans, such as Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, have signed new deals with their current teams before having the opportunity to hit the open market. He went on to argue that Cousins and his representation are unlikely to go that route in the coming weeks.
