Antonio Gates Re-Signs with Chargers: Latest Contract Details and Reaction

Longtime San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is staying with the organization after reaching an agreement Wednesday. 
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday morning that the two sides had agreed to terms.
Rand Getlin of NFL Network reported that it's a two-year, $12 million deal. Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports added that the deal includes $6 million in guaranteed money.

The Chargers have since confirmed Gates' return.
Gates is coming off a down year by his typically high standards. He missed the first four games of the 2015 regular season after a performance-enhancing-drug suspension and then racked up a modest 56 catches for 630 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games.
Add in a lengthy injury history, and it was fair to wonder whether the 35-year-old Kent State product might be nearing retirement.
