Olivier Vernon’s Transition Tag Pulled by Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins appear ready to move on from star pass-rusher Olivier Vernon, as they announced they had withdrawn the transition tag from him Wednesday.  
ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the decision, and NFL Network's Albert Breer later confirmed the report that Miami will allow Vernon to become an unrestricted free agent.
Per Schefter, the transition tag was lifted because it will allow the Dolphins to land a compensatory draft pick should Vernon sign elsewhere. According to Breer, that pick could be as high as a third-round selection.
The move was somewhat expected after Miami signed veteran defensive end Mario Williams on Tuesday night.
With Cameron Wake already in place on the other side, there wasn't much room or money left for the 25-year-old Vernon.
