Cardell Hayes’ Attorney Discusses Saints DE Will Smith’s Killing

The attorney for Cardell Hayes, who has been charged with murdering former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith, gave his version of events in a Wednesday press conference.
"[Hayes] had been tried and convicted before I got out of church on Sunday," John Fuller said, per Evan Woodbery of NOLA.com.
Smith, 34, was killed last Saturday during an altercation following a traffic accident. A coroner said Smith was shot eight times—seven in the back—while his wife, Raquel, was hit twice in the leg, per Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. Hayes was charged with second-degree murder and is expected to receive additional charges. He is yet to enter a plea.
Fuller previously said Hayes was "not the aggressor in terms of the behavior that happened after the accident," per Triplett.
