The Kansas City Chiefs added some starting experience to their secondary Saturday, as they acquired cornerback Kenneth Acker in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle was the first to report the deal, and ESPN's Adam Schefter added that the Niners will receive a 2018 seventh-round pick in return.
The 49ers selected Acker in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft out of SMU, but he missed the entire 2014 season due to a foot injury.
The 24-year-old bounced back to start 13 games for San Francisco in 2015, registering 63 tackles, eight passes defended and three interceptions.
Despite putting up some solid numbers last season, he was buried on the depth chart behind starters Tramaine Brock and Jimmie Ward, as well as the likes of Chris Davis, Dontae Johnson and rookie Rashard Robinson.
The Chiefs boast one of the NFL's top corners in Marcus Peters, while Steven Nelson and Phillip Gaines are strong complements.
