Former NFL return man Fulton Walker died Wednesday, according to Rick Kozlowski of The Journal in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Miami Dolphins senior vice president of special projects and alumni relations Nat Moore confirmed Walker, 58, died of a massive heart attack, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Walker played six years with the Dolphins and Los Angeles Raiders. He led the NFL in kickoff-return average (26.7 yards) in 1983 and punt-return yards (692) in 1985, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.
Walker made history during the 1982 season, when he returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in Super Bowl XVII, which was the first kick-return touchdown in Super Bowl history. The Dolphins lost the game to the Washington Redskins, 27-17.
Only two players—Jacoby Jones in Super Bowl XLVII and Desmond Howard in Super Bowl XXXI—have since registered longer touchdown returns in the Super Bowl, per NFL.com.
