Former NFL DL Dennis Byrd Dies in Car Crash at Age 50

Former NFL defensive lineman Dennis Byrd died at the age of 50 in a car crash in Oklahoma on Saturday.
Per the Tulsa World, Byrd was involved in a two-car collision on Oklahoma 88 that killed him and sent two other people to the hospital in critical condition.
Per the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, via the Tulsa World, the crash took place around 11:15 a.m. local time when a 17-year-old teenager veered into the oncoming lane and struck a 2004 Hummer driven by Byrd. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His NFL career was cut short on November 29, 1992, when he suffered a broken neck during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It wasn't certain he would be able to walk again after the injury, but he got back on his feet in time to walk out to midfield at the Meadowlands for the season opener in 1993.
In October 2012, the Jets honored Byrd by retiring his No. 90 in a halftime ceremony during the team's game against the Miami Dolphins.
