Joe Namath: Why a “Guarantee” Allowed Joe Namath Into the Hall of Fame

The year of 1985 was the year former New York Jets great Joe Namath was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
But did Joe Namath truly deserve it? Did he really deserve to make it into the Hall of Fame?
Let's take a look.
Joe Namath was the first overall pick of the 1965 NFL Draft, as the New York Jets picked the quarterback out of Alabama, who was believed to be the face of the franchise and the future.
In his rookie year, Namath played okay for a rookie; throwing for 2,220 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, and a 68.7 quarterback rating. He also had a percentage of 48.2 for his completions. Namath won the Rookie of the Year award that year, but the Jets only finished with a 5-8-1 record, even though they tied for second in the AFC East division. Namath, though, had a 3-5-1 starting record.
I would give Namath a pass for that year. But from 1966 to 1967 he was just horrendous, statistic-wise.
