Revenge or Retirement: Why Payback May Fuel Brett Favre’s 2010 Return

I've always been puzzled by the term, "Revenge is a dish best served cold."
First of all, I've never totally understood why revenge is being served cold.  Secondly, if revenge is the main meal, then what is the entree? 
Okay, so realistically we all know what the term means. However, when it comes to football, is it so wrong for certain players to want to gain revenge on a certain team, coach, or player?
I guess not, as long as the revenge is taken on the playing field. But this time, one man in particular has voiced his opinion in regards to some extreme revenge he would like to endure this season.
In case you haven't heard already, Brett Favre's decision is still pending. Brad Childress has failed to set a definite deadline, thus leaving Brett Favre all the time in the world to twiddle his thumbs and leave us all in an eager state of mind.
