2011 NFL Mock Draft: Despite Only Allowing 16 Sacks, Offensive Line Where Giants Should Draft:
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin had some interesting comments about his quarterback Eli Manning. He told Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:
"(Manning) works so hard. We don’t have many sacks, he’s a big part of that. He doesn’t let it happen, but sometimes in doing that you put the ball in a precarious circumstance. Sometimes take the ball and go down. And I think that’s something we’ve got to do a better job of coaching and understanding that."
In other words, Coughlin wants Manning to hit the dirt sometimes instead of chucking up a prayer that turns into an interception. Manning threw 25 picks in 2010, putting the Giants defense in poor position. He wasn't pressured all that often, only being sacked 16 times.
It comes down to decision-making on Manning's part.
