QB Opens Up 2011 NFL Mock Draft
Peter King's Pick: Cam  Newton,  QB,  Auburn
King's Explanation:
"Touchdowns scored in the NFC South last year: Atlanta 47, New Orleans 44, Tampa Bay 39 ... Carolina 17. While you may not want to blame Jimmy Clausen for being in the wrong place at the wrong time as a rookie last year, you have to be skeptical of him after the Panthers' offensive meltdown. Hard to pass on a player with Newton's talent, even if the supporting cast in Carolina may not give him the chance to show it right away."
King is absolutely right about the Panthers offensive woes, which will only get worse if DeAngelo Williams and their two top tight ends,Jeff King and Dante Rosario, leave.
The Panthers would probably rather deal out of this spot and I'd think far enough down where they can take either Julio Jones or A.J. Green to fill out a weak receiving corps that might soon lose Steve Smith. But there are no takers.
