Can the Chicago Bears Fill Needs at Offensive Tackle or Wide Receiver in the First Round?
Lovie Smith is set to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears through 2013. In his time, Chicago has been to a Super Bowl and two NFC Conference Championship games. The Bears have remained relevant throughout Smith’s tenure.
The draft is his next chance to keep it that way.
The Bears have needs, mainly at offensive tackle and wide receiver. But the opposite side of making a conference championship game and losing is you still end up near the bottom of the draft order. In the case of Chicago, there likely won’t be a player available to fill either the offensive tackle or wide receiver need.
So does Lovie stay put in the draft and fill a secondary need? Or does he make some noise with his newly acquired job security that allows him to go get a prospect higher in the draft?
It’s a deep defensive line class, an area that Chicago could use a boost on as well. But how much ...
