The Chargers Draft Muhammad Wilkerson From Temple With Their First-Round Pick In The 2011 NFL Draft
San Diego became the first team in the modern era of the NFL to have the top ranked offense and defense and miss the playoffs. They underachieved thanks to some awful special teams play early in the year, and poor performance from everyone late in the year.
One area that they have been trying to upgrade the last couple of years is on the defensive edges. Shawne Merriman used to be the man, but after his steroid suspension he was never the same player.
Muhammad Wilkerson, Temple defensive end/tackle, doesn't possess the kind of speed off the edge that Merriman once did, but he is very quick for someone his size. Plus, he has the versatility to play end or tackle in the NFL.
