2011 Mock Draft: With Mike Pouncey Already Picked, Steelers Shift to Plan B:
For weeks, Mike Pouncey has seemed a solid pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 31st overall. Rated as the top interior lineman prospect, Pouncey was going to slip past every single team ahead of the Steelers in the draft order since no one really needed help on the interior offensive line more than another position.
But Pouncey has been climbing the draft boards. So much so that it doesn't look the Steelers will have a shot at him at 31st overall.
Good thing for Pittsburgh that former Baylor tackle Dan Watkins isn't that far behind Pouncey. Yes, he was a tackle. But Watkins is projected as a guard at the next level after his performance at the Senior Bowl.
Watkins has already been drafted into professional football—the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League drafted him fourth overall in 2010, but he returned for his senior year at Baylor and will reap the reward this spring.
