The Carolina Panthers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27-16 Saturday evening to advance to the next round of the NFC playoffs. The game was a close affair going into the half, with the Cardinals leading 14-13. A strong third quarter saw the Panthers jump out to 27-14 and it would remain that way until Arizona was awarded a safety when Brad Nortman tried running the clock out with 11 seconds left to play.
For Cam Newton, the victory was sweet as it removed the proverbial monkey off his back and he could shake off the stigma of not having won a postseason game. 
Carolina's defense was very impressive, especially in the second half as the unit forced some key turnovers.
The win brings the Panthers' overall record back to .500 on the season and this is a team that could potentially make some noise in the next round.
