The strange and very sad saga of Arron Sears is ongoing.
Sears, the former starting guard for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who was a second-round draft pick in 2007, was found wandering aimlessly on Gunn Highway in northwest Tampa Sunday afternoon.
Sears was arrested on an outstanding warrant stemming from a June charge for battery on a police officer.
Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies decided that Sears needed to be held for a mental health evaluation under the state's Baker Act.
This latest episode is a sad chapter in the puzzling case of what has actually happened to Sears.
The Bucs released him and were never able to give a reasonable explanation as to what happened to Sears after his second year with the team.
He started 16 games as a rookie then 15 in his second season.
His behavior became more and more disturbing and this latest episode may provide some answers as to what has happened to the one-time outstanding NFL lineman.
