Atlanta Falcons Sign LB Lofa Tatupu: What It Means

The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement with former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu in a move that may give more insight into the team's offseason plans.
Tatupu, who was out of football all of last season, has had a history of knee injuries and concussions in the past. He was, however, a three-time Pro Bowler in six seasons with the Seahawks.
The signing comes a day after the Falcons worked out the 29-year-old free agent, and the impact could be two-fold.
 
Team impact
With 2011 draft pick Akeem Dent already providing depth at the middle linebacker position, the acquisition of Tatupu could only mean he's coming to Atlanta to take on the starting job.
That could spell the end of Curtis Lofton's tenure with the Falcons when free agency opens on Tuesday.
