Brett Favre Retiring: Favre Reportedly Told Teammates He Won’t Play

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported via his Twitter account that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has told his teammates and team officials that he will not play in 2010. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Favre began texting teammates that he will hang up his cleats today.
Glazer also reports that Favre told his teammates the wear and tear on his body is too much for the 18-year NFL veteran and future Hall of Famer.
NBC Sports reports that Favre will announce his retirement with a statement later today.  Favre will cite that his injured ankle, which he had surgically repaired following the 2009 season, has not responded well to tests.
Predictably, the Vikings hope Favre will change his mind and will likely campaign for Favre to do so.  It is still early in training camp with a month to go before Week One, but Favre so far appears set on his decision.
If Favre retires, the landscape of the NFC changes dramatically. The Vikings are Super Bowl contenders...
