Cam Newton Injury: Updates on Panthers Star’s Ankle and Return

First, the Carolina Panthers lost all their wide receivers via free agency. Now, the guy who's supposed to throw the ball to what few wideouts are left is going in for surgery. Needless to say, it's not a great start to the offseason for Carolina.   
The team confirmed that star quarterback Cam Newton is set to have ankle surgery on Wednesday, per Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer:

The star QB could be out for four months:
With that timetable, Newton would be out until around July or August. That would mean that the Panthers might not have their starting QB for the first game of the preseason. At the very least, he's likely to miss organized team activities, per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport:
