Brees Reportedly Will Need to Take Pay Cut to Stay with Saints Sunday, Dec. 27 According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Brees—who will have a cap hit of $30 million next season—will have to "take a hometown discount to return." Rapoport added: "Internally with the Saints, there is still frustration that Drew Brees maximized his contract last time. They feel it caused depth issues."
Former sports agent Joel Corry noted, "Brees' contract forces Saints to make quick decision. $10.85M of $19.75M base salary is fully [guaranteed on February 10, 2016] (3rd day of waiver period)."
Brees, 36, has thrown for 4,135 yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions this season. New Orleans has struggled, however, taking a 5-9 record into Week 16.
