Dwan Edwards Released by Panthers: Latest Comments and Reaction

Veteran defensive tackle Dwan Edwards was cut by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, according to the team's website.
Edwards, 34, spent the past three seasons in Carolina's defensive tackle rotation and registered 13 tackles and a sack in 12 games during the 2015 regular season.
Edwards' release is the latest change on Carolina's defensive line, as the team also released defensive end Charles Johnson on Thursday, while Jared Allen retired this offseason. 
All of those roster moves saved the Panthers $21.2 million in cap space, per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, a big savings for three veteran players who combined to accumulate just 53 tackles and four sacks in 2015.
Person also believes the Panthers will use some of that cap space to sign defensive tackle Kawann Short to a contract extension.
