‘Fireman Ed’ Will Return to Lead Jets Fans in Week 1 Against Browns

After stepping down two-plus seasons ago, "Fireman Ed" is back.
Well, at least for one game.
According to Kristian Dyer of Metro, New York Jets superfan Ed Anzalone—better known as Fireman Ed— will return to lead his fellow Jets fans in the "J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!" chant Sunday when the team takes on the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium.
Anzalone stepped away from his Fireman Ed role in the middle of the 2012 season. That was during a rough time for the team, and with an increasing number of confrontations with other fans, he decided it was time to just be a normal fan.
Now, he's back—at the team's request.
"I don't know how I'll be. It'll be bittersweet; I didn't want to leave in the first place. Been doing it for 28 years, met a lot of great people and I've been the guardian of it in many ways," Anzalone said, per Dyer. "I'll get emotional, no doubt about it. But in a good way. I'm excited about it. I'll get through it."
