Fullback James Develin Proving His Worth to the Patriots

The New England Patriots may have realized that James Develin is underutilized. According to The Boston Globe, Develin’s snaps had decreased since Week 2 to a season low of nine against the Kansas City Chiefs.
It was as if the Patriots were treating Develin like a collector’s item because he’s one of 22 fullbacks in the NFL. If they preserved Develin through minimum wear and kept him healthy, New England could get more for him on the television show Hardcore Pawn or in a trade.
“Gently used FB. Almost mint! Asking price: starting guard, No. 1 receiver or B.O.”
But with more teams running less and utilizing fullback alternatives (versatile tight ends or an extra lineman), there’s little to no interest in Develin. Running backs are practically viewed as a dime a dozen, making fullbacks worth pennies on the dollar.
