Harrison Smith Injury: Updates on Vikings Safety’s Knee and Return

Already facing questions in the secondary, the Minnesota Vikings will be without safety Harrison Smith in Week 12 as he deals with a knee injury.

Vikings Rule Smith OutSaturday, Nov. 28Darren Wolfson of KSTP in Minneapolis reported the Vikings were holding Smith out for their matchup against Atlanta after his knee slammed into teammate Terence Newman last week. This will be the first game the 26-year-old has missed since 2013. 
A first-round pick in 2012, Smith has steadily increased his performance to become one of the NFL's best safeties. 
Pro Football Focus ranked him as the second-best safety as well as the 49th-best player regardless of position last season, citing his ability against the run as a big reason for his success. 
The Vikings will especially miss Smith's ability to defend the run as long as he is out, as the defense is tied for 17th with 110.1 rushing yards allowed per game.
