Jaylon Smith Stands out as a Top Linebacker, Even Through Injury

NFL teams looking at the draft for off-the-ball linebacker prospects will have to face a harsh reality. Though the position is strong at the top, the two elite players are both coming off major knee injuries.
Myles Jack of UCLA tore his meniscus in September, ending his college career early on in his true junior year. ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss reported that Jack isn't ready to fully participate in this month's scouting combine in Indianapolis. Instead of running, jumping and cutting through Lucas Oil Stadium, you'll find him on the bench press.
The other major linebacker prospect overcoming physical adversity is Jaylon Smith of Notre Dame, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in the Fighting Irish's Fiesta Bowl loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Just over a month after the injury, it's way beyond Smith's timetable to join in on the Underwear Olympics.
