Keenan Allen Contract: Latest News, Rumors on Negotiations with Chargers

Keenan Allen's career has not taken off as expected following a breakout rookie season in 2013, but that won't stop the San Diego Chargers from engaging in contract talks with their star wide receiver.

Chargers Being Patient with Allen Friday, Mar. 4 Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said the team will focus on free agency and the draft before discussing a long-term deal with Allen, per Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union Tribune.
Gehlken noted this is a similar approach the Chargers took with defensive end Corey Liuget, who signed a five-year extension in June.
The 23-year-old Allen is entering the final season of his rookie contract and will make just under $1.7 million, per Spotrac. He was a third-round pick in 2013 and has outperformed his initial deal, recording 215 receptions for 2,554 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons.
