Miami Dolphins Place WR Brian Hartline on IR, Promote TE Dedrick Epps

A hand injury suffered last week against the Cleveland Browns ended wide receiver Brian Hartline's season a month early, as the Miami Dolphins placed Hartline on injured reserve Saturday.

Hartline, who suffered the injury blocking former Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth on a play against Cleveland, did not travel with the team to New York and had surgery on his hand this week.

Rather than promote one of their three practice squad wide receivers to take Hartline's place, the Dolphins instead chose to sign rookie tight end Dedrick Epps to the active roster.

The Dolphins are expected to get Brandon Marshall (hamstring) back against the Jets, while Epps becomes the fourth tight end on the team's active roster.

Epps arrived at the University of Miami in 2006 as one of the top high school tight ends in the nation and spent his first two seasons with the Hurricanes as a backup.
