The Chargers Receive an Extra 6th and 7th Round Selection for the 2011 NFL Draft
The NFL Management Council dusted off their advanced calculus skills and doled out it's compensatory picks for the upcoming 2011 Draft.

I would explain the formula to you that they used to arrive at who received the picks, but I would have to understand it myself.
Essentially, they found that last season the Chargers lost more value in free agency than they added, and in the Chargers this was a fairly easy conclusion to arrive upon as they lost Kassim Osgood and Brandon Manumaleuna via free agency while signing the always unproductive no one.
As a result the Chargers were awarded the 201st overall selection (36th in the sixth round) and the 233rd overall selection (33rd in the seventh).
Yep, that's right. The NFL just tacks these picks on at the end of rounds.
