NFL Draft 2011: Is the Draft Over-Hyped?

It seems like more than ever, the NFL is trying to push the draft as one of the most important days in sports. Although it might be important for teams, what is the draft and why does the NFL make it such a huge deal?

As soon as the football season ends, the NFL uses the draft to keep their names in the headlines after the Super Bowl. The NFL tries to keep the casual fan’s attention by continuously breaking down the weaknesses of each team.

Draft “experts,” like Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, tell you why a certain quarterback cannot translate to the NFL or how a running back’s small hands will cause him to fumble a lot in the NFL. Does the casual fan really care about all that stuff?

In reality, the draft itself is very boring. It is a bunch of guy in suits sitting around in New York, waiting ten minutes for a team to finally make the pick everyone knew they were going to make. It is dull and takes way too long.
