Ryan Mathews Injury: Updates on Eagles Star’s Ankle and Return

Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews is dealing with an ankle injury that limited him during Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. His official playing status for Week 5 against the Detroit Lions after a Week 4 bye has yet to be determined.

Mathews Held Out of Blowout Win vs. Steelers Monday, Sept. 26 Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Mathews' ankle "stiffened" so he was held out of Sunday's 34-3 victory over the Steelers. Mathews had two carries for minus-five yards.
Mathews Expected to Carry the Load After DeMarco Murray Trade In Mathews' absence, Wendell Smallwood gained 79 yards on the ground, while Kenjon Barner picked up 42 with each player finding the end zone. Darren Sproles also caught six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
