San Francisco 49ers: Why the Team Needs to Cut Ties with Aldon Smith

It doesn't matter how talented you are sometimes. In the NFL, you can be out of a job at any time if you provide a big enough distraction.
The San Francisco 49ers have Super Bowl aspirations and cannot afford to keep linebacker Aldon Smith, the former First-Team All Pro, who is a stud pass-rusher and was perhaps the second-best defensive player in the league in 2012 behind J.J. Watt. 
The summary of Smith's legal gauntlet includes a misdemeanor DUI charge (that could potentially become more serious because of how high his blood-alcohol level was) and three counts of felony weapons assault charges.
He is already on a permanent leave of absence from the team for being drunk at 7 a.m. (no, really) in San Jose and being arrested under suspicion of the DUI and possession of marijuana. He's currently receiving treatment and will appear in court to answer these charges November 4.
