Perceptions of NFL players can change in a heartbeat.
Take the case of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Throughout his run with Chicago, he has largely been thought of as a talented, physically gifted underachiever. There has also been a perception that because he tends to keep a sour look on his face that he may not care as much as some other quarterbacks.
That may not have been fair, but Cutler has had a tendency to throw interceptions and fumble the ball, and often at inopportune moments. Last year, he threw 18 interceptions, and that was more than any other quarterback in the league. He also fumbled 12 times.
Cutler did not start the season as if things were going to change very much, as he threw key interceptions in each of the first two games of the season, and he also suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 against Arizona that prevented him from playing in the following game at Seattle.
