Super Bowl Prop Bets 2011: The Number of the Player to Score the First Touchdown

Super Bowl Prop Bets don’t get any less wacky.

Now we’re betting on whether the player who scores the first touchdown of the game will be wearing an odd or even numbered jersey.

Well, let’s examine the usual suspects.  For the Packers, Aaron Rodgers (12), Donald Driver (80), and James Starks (44), all wear even numbers.  Greg Jennings (85) wears odd.  For the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger (7) and Mike Wallace (17) wear odd, but Rashard Mendenhall (34) and Hines Ward (86) wear even.

This bet is on the person who actually crosses the goal line with the ball, so it’s less about the quarterbacks and more about the running backs and receivers, unless there’s a QB sneak.  I’d say with Driver, Starks, Mendenhall, and Ward all wearing even numbers, that’s the direction to lean here.  But Greg Jennings did catch 8 passes for 130 yards last week, and was Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target.  So proceed with caution.
