Washington Redskins in Free Agency: The Deafening Sound of Silence

You know things have gotten strange when a team makes headlines for what it’s not doing.

Indeed, the Washington Redskins are under new management. Its approach to free agency this season—judicious and restrained—has been nothing short of a breath of fresh air.

Rumors abounded about what prizes the Redskins would be after at the start of free agency. Julius Peppers, LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Owens—all of these names passed the lips of Redskins faithful everywhere, but none was added.

Instead, it's been names like Artis Hicks, who only started 13 games for the Vikings during the last three seasons; Maake Kemoeatu, who ended 2009 on injured reserve; and Sean Ryan, a blocking tight end who has two touchdown receptions in three years.

But while not big names, all three could be important pieces for the Redskins.
