Why the Patriots Play the Lions in Detroit on Thanksgiving

The small child asked me why the Patriots were in Detroit for Thanksgiving.
"Tradition," I said.
"But in school they say Pilgrims landed in Plymouth," he said.
"That's because they don't tell you the real story in school," I say.
OK, he's hooked at the prospect of "secret" knowledge.  If this was a Charles Dicken's novel he'd say, "Pray, Sir, please tell me the story."
What he said was, "So I guess no matter what I say you'll tell me the story, right?"
I tousled his hair and said, "Smart kid.  Sit on my lap as I tell you about the first Thanksgiving."
"It wasn't in Plymouth?"
"Actually, Plymouth was number 4.  First was in Texas, but it was held by illegal immigrants back when people thought that was a bad thing.  Second was Roanoke, but everyone died and people don't talk about it.
"The third was in Detroit," I said.
"How'd the Pilgrims get there?  It is not on the ocean," he said.
